Now more than ever parents have been placed in a difficult situation as it pertains to their child’s educational needs. The situation has become critical and urgent because many school districts have announced they will not fully resume in-person classes this fall as Corona virus cases continue to surge. The only way for children to return to school would be in small classes, with one teacher and no shared common spaces such as lunchrooms, art-rooms and gymnasiums. This POD approach as it is currently being called can happen at Collegiate School.
A pod refers to a small protective family unit but in educational terms it can stand for a small number of students learning together in a safe, contained area, similar to a “one-room” school house approach. One teacher, one large room, each student having their own designated space. At Collegiate we can provide your child with the opportunity to stay healthy and safe in what we will call “Flocks”, representing a group of birds.(Collegiate’s mascot is a cardinal) Flocks will have their own entrance and exit, their own eating areas, they will stay together and learn together, providing much needed hands on instructional learning for all school age children .This also eliminates the problem of on-line isolation and provides students with the crucial developmental social interaction with limited numbers of other students. Public schools are not designed to educate very small numbers of students.
Pods, or as we say, Cardinal Flocks will enhance our already existing learning methods offered such as socially distant classrooms, a hybrid in-class and at-home model , and a fully online option. Collegiate School continues to offer quality education regardless of the circumstances, giving parent’s peace of mind that despite these trying times their child’s education will not suffer. Our Cardinal Flock will be available to a limited number of student’s learning together with a teacher who will provide individualized lessons at a school that has been in existence for over 125 years.
As a college preparatory school, Collegiate prides itself in having a challenging curriculum. Students are required to have 4 years of Science, 4 years of Math, 4 years of English, 4 years of History, 3 years of foreign language, and 4 years of physical education.
Creating a well-rounded, mature individual is our goal.
